September has been fairly quiet, but arguably my most successful month of the season. I started the month off with a Portsmouth Mountbatten crit, where I managed to take a couple of laps early on with another guy and we sprinted it out at the end. I took the win and a nice bit of confidence for my next races! (plus a nice bottle of prosecco!)
Next up for me, I was back in France with Lee valley to race La Classique Puisaye Forterre UCI 1.1. I knew that on the right day with good sensations I could get a really nice result on a course with a hard finishing circuit like this one. A very undulating terrain mena that I could use my punchy strength to my advantage. We worked really well together as a team, with 3 of us left after an attritional previous 100kms. 2 riders went up the road, and due to my positioning I was not able to follow which is something I later was quite frustrated about, but it left us fighting for 3rd after lots of looking around. One by one we attacked so that it was on others to chase and we could follow the riders, keeping us fresh for the finale. Finally, with 3 km to go, it was my turn to attack with hopes of holding on until the finish line. I executed the plan perfectly and after some good tactics from the boys (worthy mention Eddy Boyle), and some good legs, I picked up 3rd. My best result of the season, and goal I had had for a long time! Due to my EU days being mostly used up, that marked my last race of the season on foreign turf.
Finally, I decided to scratch an itch I've had for a while, hill climbing. I knew both of the climbs well, but my pacing on the first climb was sub optimal, meaning I was 3 seconds down on the lead going into the second one of the day. I ended up 2nd overall on the day even after a good second climb, due to accumulating time. Some fun to end the season! Time to enjoy some social time! See you next season, and thanks to Pedal Potential for their continued support.
